We are delighted to announce the winners of the ISFF short film awards
This year, the festival received over 400 submissions and 80 short films were included in the final program. The ISFF Jury included Carl Zimmer (Science Author and Journalist), David Eagelman (Neuroscientist and Writer), Darcy Kelley (Harold Weintraub and HHMI Professor of Biological Sciences at Columbia University), and Robb Moss (Documentary Filmmaker and Harvard Professor).

Scientific Merit Award – $2,500
WINNER: EAGLEMAN STAG
Directed by Mikey PleaseThe 2011 jury, consisting of Carl Zimmer, David Eagelman, Darcy Kelley, and Robb Moss have selected “Eagleman Stag” as the winner of the Nature Scientific Merit Award. The Nature Scientific Merit Award is awarded to a short film that exemplifies science in narrative filmmaking in a compelling, credible and inspiring manner.

People’s Choice Award – $1,000
WINNER: UNTIL
Directed by Barry GibbThe audience of the 4th Annual Imagine Science Film Festival has selected “Until” as the winner of the Nature People’s Choice Award. The Nature People’s Choice Award is given to a short film which receives the most audience votes during the festival.

The Scientist Award - $1,000
WINNER: CHASING BIRDS IN BERINGI
Directed by Stephani GordonThe 2011 jury, consisting of Carl Zimmer, David Eagelman, Darcy Kelley, and Robb Moss have selected “Chasing Birds in Beringia” as the winner of the The Scientist Award, sponsored by Science/AAAS. The Scientist Award is given to a short film that depicts a scientist in an accurate and original way.

Visual Science Award - $1,000
WINNER: BREAST STEM CELLS
Directed by Etsuko Uno & Drew BarryThe 2011 jury, consisting of Carl Zimmer, David Eagelman, Darcy Kelley, and Robb Moss have selected “Breast Stem Cells” as the winner of the The Scientist Award, sponsored by Imaginal Disc. The Visual Science Award is given to a short film that depicts science in a visually-engaging manner.
