Alexis Gambis is a filmmaker, scientist and the founder of Imagine Science Films, a non-profit organization with promotes science in filmmaking and organizes the annual Imagine Science Film Festival. He is currently attending New York University’s Graduate Film School and is a faculty member in the Department of Biology at NYU. Dr. Gambis is also a scientific advisor to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and was appointed as as the youngest member of the Sloan Film Advisory Committee in January 2009. Born in Paris, France, Alexis began to cultivate interests in both science and film as a teenager. His recent films, A Fruit Fly in New York and Dr Funque and His Petri Dish, explore the connections between science, imagination and creativity. With his films, his mission is to enhance public understanding on scientific issues, to challenge existing stereotypes about science + scientists and to generate visually-stimulating stories about science . After obtaining his Baccalaureate in Paris, France, he moved to New York where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bard College in 2003 and his PhD in molecular biology & genetics at the Rockefeller University in 2009.TRAILER
